Rapid Response System Collaborative

Rapid response teams, often called emergency medical teams, are made up of specially designated clinicians who identify high-risk patients, respond to early signs of acute deterioration, and bring critical care expertise to the bedside before patients decline into a critical state.  Created in 2006 by the United Hospital Fund and Greater New York Hospital Association (with additional support from the New York State Department of Health), the Rapid Response System Collaborative works to strengthen teamwork and ensure the success of such interventions by guiding effective and concise communication among clinicians--particularly between hospital staff who summon rapid response teams and the responding teams.

The Rapid Response System Collaborative supports participating hospitals by:
•    Conducting ongoing educational programs;
•    Establishing an "expert-on-call" system;
•    Providing data analysis and reporting.

Thirty-eight hospitals throughout the Greater New York region are participating in this collaborative.
