Critical Care Leadership Network

The Critical Care Leadership Network comprises executive leaders and interdisciplinary hospital workers who are leaders in the fields of critical care medicine, surgery, or nursing, and who are active in critical care initiatives and associations, both locally and nationally. The network's core mission is to improve patient outcomes in intensive care units by coordinating the delivery of critical care services in New York hospitals and by sharing and standardizing the implementation of evidence-based practices and the training of clinicians.

With 30 members from 14 hospitals from throughout the Greater New York region, the Critical Care Leadership Network Steering Committee meets bimonthly to guide, oversee, and set priorities for the network's activities. For 2009, the Steering Committee is focusing on the following core areas:

•    Collecting and using data effectively to set priorities;
•    Implementing evidence-based practice in the critical care setting;
•    Developing optimal intensive care unit staffing models;
•    Addressing the workforce shortage in intensive care units;
•    Recognizing the role of critical care outside the intensive care unit;
•    Monitoring bed utilization and patient throughput;
•    Providing end-of-life care and addressing organ donor/recipient issues;
•    Using simulation and other training models.
